MILPITAS, CA - March 17, 2016 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC4371, a rugged, ideal diode or
controller for dual-fed, high-power telecom and datacom boards. power consumption, voltage drop and solution
size. The controller can withstand ±300V or higher transients during lightning-induced surges, load switching,
or power shorts, making it the most robust diode or solution available. A built-in shunt regulated power supply
with a low quiescent current of 350µA and a high impedance drain pin allow the use of external resistors with high
resistance values to safely limit device current at such high transient voltages. Since no external transient voltage
suppressor is required, this reduces cost and the required board area.
The LTC4371 has a very low 15mV forward voltage differential across the ideal diode MOSFET to minimize
power consumption in high current applications. Linear servo technology isolates the DC reverse current while
ensuring smooth current delivery during power switching. Powerful 2A gate shutdown current minimizes transient
reverse current in the event of an input power short. A strong 5mA gate pull-up current ensures a fast turn-on
of the MOSFET, which can be used for AC rectification applications. The high gate current provides powerful drive
capability when multiple MOSFETs are connected in parallel in 50A and 100A high current applications. With an
internal shunt regulator, the operating voltage range can be extended to hundreds of volts, while the 4.5V
minimum supply voltage is suitable for low voltage -5V and -12V or applications. The device detects an open
circuit fault in the MOSFET or one of the series fuses and signals it from the fault status output.
